Citizenship and English Classes

Are you ready to become a citizen of the United States and improve your knowledge of the English language? Let us help you on your journey! The Carthage Public Library offers classes to help prepare you for the citizenship exam. There are citizenship classes every Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The English classes are also every Saturday from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If you are interested, please enroll online or stop by the library and fill one out in person.
¿Está listo para hacerse ciudadano de los Estados Unidos y necesita mejorar su conocimiento del inglés? ¡Déjanos ayudarle en su camino! La Biblioteca Pública de Carthage ofrece clases para ayudarle a prepararse para el examen de ciudadanía. Hay clases de ciudadanía cada lunes de las 5:00 p.m. a las 7:00 p.m. y cada sábado de las 9:30 a.m. a las 10:45 a.m. Las clases de inglés también se llevan a cabo cada sábado de las 10:45 a.m. a las 11:30 a.m. Si está interesado, por favor inscríbase en línea o pasa por la biblioteca para llenar la aplicación en persona.
Notary Services Available Starting April 7th, 2025

The Carthage Public Library will offer notary services starting next Monday, April 7, 2025!
Carthage Public Library Notary Policy (Adopted March 11, 2025)
The Carthage Public Library offers a Notary service at the Library for a small fee. Before bringing documents to be notarized, please call first to be sure that the notary is available: 417-237-7040
Guidelines for Notary Service:
- Please call and make an appointment. Hours may vary on a daily basis.
- Bring a current photo ID, such as a valid driver’s license, state ID, or passport, with you.
- Forms MUST be filled out ahead of time. The notary is not a legal expert and therefore cannot help you fill out any needed forms.
- The notary will not notarize a blank sheet of paper.
- All document(s) MUST be signed in front of the notary. Do NOT sign your document(s) ahead of time!
- If more than one person must sign the document(s), they must ALL be present at the time of notarization.
- The notary follows all regulations of the State of Missouri as outlined in the Missouri Notary Public Handbook.
- If needed, please bring your own witnesses.
- We can only notarize materials in English.
- The notary will not notarize I-9 forms.
Fee:
There is a $1.00 fee per (notary) signature. No fee shall be charge for notarizing voter registration forms or absentee/mail in ballots for local, state, or federal elections.
Additional Information:
A notary only verifies the signer’s identity and that the signature was made willingly and freely. Notarization does NOT:
- Prove a document to be true or accurate.
- Legalize or validate a document.
- Prove that a statement under oath is true.
Public notaries are NOT legal professionals. Please do not ask legal questions or for legal advice.

¡Felicidades a nuestros estudiantes que aprobaron sus exámenes de ciudadanía! Fue un placer tenerles en la clase y les deseamos éxito en todos sus esfuerzos. Por el momento las clases están suspendidas por el verano y se reanudarán a mitad de agosto. Mientras, no dude en ponerse en contacto con nosotros, queremos ayudar con todo que podemos.
Congratulations to our students who passed their citizenship exams! It was a pleasure having them in class and we wish them success in all their endeavors. At the moment, the classes are paused for the summer and will resume in mid August. Meanwhile, do not hesitate in contacting us, we want to help with whatever we can.

Planning some DIY home improvement but don’t have all the tools? The library does! You can check out tool bags for carpentry, electronics, plumbing, automotive repair, and more! You only need to be 18 years of age or older, and have a valid Carthage Public Library card that is in good standing. If you have questions, just give us a call at 417-237-7040. The nice folks at the Circulation Desk can answer all of your library card questions, and they can send your call over to Ben in the Steadley Makerspace Building for questions about tools.
